Customer Service Representative #2025-PT26
Posted 2025-05-22Skilled position in customer service requiring outstanding computer and analytical skills. Uses Microsoft Office, Central Square utility billing software, and Neptune Reading software to assist utility customers. Coordinates the necessary follow-up action with other functional areas to resolve customer inquiries. Assists in collection of delinquent utility accounts. Investigates customer complaints concerning services and billings. Examines bills, meter readings and related records to determine validity of customer complaints. Notifies customers and appropriate personnel of findings and/or adjustments. May follow up on actions taken to ensure customer satisfaction. Write letters to businesses and customers in response to inquiries. Arranges for special pick-ups. Contacts service workers regarding complaint work. Processes new account requests for water, sewer and garbage accounts and inputs appropriate data. Sort the mail on a daily basis. Processes work orders and service orders. Ability to prioritize job duties. Performs related work as necessary.
High school diploma or equivalent. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in utility customer service and/or Central Square billing software. Knowledge of utility billing, municipal laws, policies and practices. Knowledge of bookkeeping and clerical principles and methods. Ability to use Excel spreadsheets and Word documents. Ability to compose correspondence. Ability to communicate with irate customers in a courteous manner. Must have ability to calmly resolve customer inquiries and work well under stress. Ability to type, and file. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Applicants will be required to display a proficiency in Microsoft Office. A comparable amount of experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Ability to effectively communicate with the public both in person and on a telephone is essential as well as good interpersonal skills. Sedentary position with the ability to handle or feel objects or controls, see, read, talk and hear. Occasional pushing, pulling, moving up to 25 lbs. Work is performed in an inside office environment, noise level in this environment is usually moderate.
Work Days/Hours : Varies between Monday – Thursday, 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., no more than 25 hours per week
