United Healthcare is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Director of Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and Behavioral Health Clinical Operations to join our team in Las Vegas NV. This senior leadership role is critical to the success of our organization and will be focused on our behavioral clinical operations working closely with the behavioral CMO on a whole-person care across physical and mental health.

The role involves overseeing the governance of our provider/vendor behavioral network, developing and implementing Employee Assistance Program (EAP) strategies, growth strategies for behavioral products, management of virtual/onsite clinicians, monitoring outcomes of our Utilization Management (UM) and Case Management (CM) programs in collaboration with behavioral health CMO.

This role manages a team of 4 direct reports (CM manager, EAP Assc Director, UM Assc Director and Clinical Quality Manager) with over 30 employees that encompasses aspects of behavioral clinical and quality operations for all HPN/SHL FI, IFP, and Medicaid.

The ideal candidate will bring strategic vision, financial acumen, solid leadership skills, experience in working in a matrixed structure and managing a high-performing team.

Primary Responsibilities:

    Governance of provider/vendor agreements for clinical team:
  • Liaison with contracted providers/vendors to ensure compliance with all contractual obligations, access requirements and clinical/quality metrics
  • Engages with network team to address network adequacy and access requirements are achieved
  • Reviews cost trends for commercial and Medicaid behavioral and implements affordability initiatives to address any outliers
  • Establishes and maintains a solid relationship with key vendors/providers working closely with the network and provider service teams
  • Develops and monitors key performance indicators for vendor performance, implementing corrective actions as necessary to meet organizational goals
    Employee Assistance Program (EAP) management and oversight:
  • Oversee the strategic planning, development and execution of the Employee Assistance Program offering for the Nevada health plan
  • Engage with large clients to promote EAP services and ensure program offerings are competitive
  • Monitor the financial performance of EAP offering and put forth annual business plan
  • Maintain competitive intelligence for market and organize education for sales/account teams
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of EAP services, making data-driven recommendations for improvements and enhancements
    Virtual/onsite clinician management:
  • Oversee the establishment, operational management, and strategic planning of any new access points for behavioral, ensuring they meet all regulatory requirements and appropriate increase access to care for the target population
  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives for behavioral based product offerings to support the health plans for Medicaid, commercial and individual exchange
  • Monitor clinic performance metrics, patient satisfaction, and operational efficiency, implementing improvements as needed
    Data analytics for behavioral health clinical performance:
  • Liaison with a team for data analysts to provide actionable insights that support decision-making and strategic planning
  • Utilizes advanced data analytics to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement
  • Develops and implements data-driven strategies to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and improve financial performance
    Oversight of UM and CM programs for behavioral health:
  • Provides strategic oversight and direction for Utilization Management and Case Management functions, ensuring they align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements
  • Works across physical and mental health teams to ensure processes are in place to achieve a whole person care approach
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to implement strategies to improve UM/CM performance
  • Tracks service trends and initiates updates/changes to address with teams
    Leadership and Team Management:
  • Develop a high-performing team of professionals, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment that encourages innovation and excellence
  • Set clear performance goals, conduct regular evaluations, and provide ongoing feedback and support to team members to ensure they meet or exceed expectations
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, professional development, and accountability within the team

    Required Qualifications:
  • Independently licensed Master's degree level clinician in: Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or Marriage & Family Counseling; OR Licensed Ph.D. or Licensed PsyD; OR an RN
  • Licensure must be current and unrestricted in the State of Nevada
  • 2+ years of experience working within a Managed Care Organization (MCO)
  • 2+ years of administrative management experience
  • 1+ years of behavioral health clinical experience in a behavioral health setting
  • Knowledge of interqual
  • Knowledge of MCG and ASAM and/or LOCUS, CASII, ECSII
  • Proven ability to effectively plan, assign, direct and evaluate the performance of direct reports
  • Proven excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven ability to come to market as needed

The salary range for this role is $150,200 to $288,500 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
